Cytoplasmic male sterility in carrots can occur in two morphologically distinct phenotypes. CMS system has been established for the first time in Asiatic carrot germplasm in India at IARI. CMS was introduced into carrot breeding materials and provides a very efficient tool for mass-scale pollination control.
