Cowpea is an annual herbaceous legume from the genus Vigna. Cowpea seeds provide a rich source of proteins and calories, as well as minerals and vitamins. A seed can consist of 25% protein and has a very low-fat content.
Like many leguminous crops, Pulses contain 20 to 25% protein by weight, which is double the protein content of Wheat and three times that of Rice. For this reason, pulses are sometimes called “vegetarian meat”.
