The temperature range that is suitable for the development of red colour in tomato fruits is 18° - 25°C.
The red colour of tomato fruit is due to the carotenoid known as Lycopene. And it develops at a definite temperature range. However, the formation of lycopene is inhibited when the temperature of the fruits exceeds 30 degrees Celcius. High temperature affects the fruit set and development. Also, the plants cannot withstand low temperatures, frost and high humidity.
