Sir Edwin John Butler is regarded as the father of Indian Phytopathology.
Plant pathology or phytopathology is the scientific study of diseases in plants caused by pathogens and environmental conditions.
He was an Irish mycologist and plant pathologist. He became the Imperial Mycologist in India and later the first director of the Imperial Bureau of Mycology in England. He has been called the Father of Mycology and Plant Pathology in India.
