Coding and Decoding

Coding and Decoding :

Some words are stand for some another words which is known code of the word. Process of replacing some word by code word is known as Coding. Decoding is reverse of Coding.

Coding and Decoding test is set up to judge candidates ability to decipher the rule that the code follows.

Examples :

TYPE 1:

1. In a certain code FIRE is coded as DGPC. What will be the last letter of the coded word for SHOT ?
(a) Q
(b) P
(c) R
(d) S

Explanations :
Comparing the letter of FIRE with given Code DGPC, we get
D → F
G → I
P → R
C → E

Thus, it is clear that each letter of the word FIRE stands for each corresponding letter of the Code word DGPC two places ahead. By applying the same principle, the letter QFMR will stand for SHOT. Hence, the last letter of the coded word is R.

2. In a certain code, TELEPHONE is written as ENOHPELET. How ALIGATOR written in the same code ?

(a) ROTAGILA
(b) ROTAGAIL
(c) ROTAGILE
(d) ROTEGILA

Explanations :

TELEPHONE → ENOHPELET
The letters of the word are written in a reverse order to obtain the code. Following the same pattern, We get

ALIGATOR → ROTAGILA .

TYPE 2:

1. If in a certain code, SWITCH is coded as TVJSDG, which word would be coded as CQFZE (a) BARED
(b) BRAED
(c) BREAD
(d) BRADE

Explanations :

SWITCH → TVSDG

Odd Place's
(SWITCH)

S

I

C

Even Place's
(SWITCH)

W

T

H

Odd Place's
Coding

T

J

D

Even Place's
Coding

V

S

G

Each letter at odd place in the word is one step behind and each letter at even place in the word is one step ahead of the corresponding letter of the code. Following the same steps,
CQFZE → BREAD.

TYPE 3:

If TOUR is coded as 1234, CLEAR as 56784 and SPARE as 90847, what will be the 5th digit for SCULPTURE in the same code ?
(a) 3
(b) 6
(c) 0
(d) 4
(e) 1

Explanations :
Comparing the letter,
T → 1
O → 2
U → 3
R → 4
C → 5
L → 6
E → 7
A → 8
S → 9
P → 0

As 5th letter of SCULPTURE is P and 0 is used for P.
