The scientific name of Napier grass is Cenchrus purpureus. It is also known as elephant grass or Uganda grass is a species of perennial tropical grass native to the African grasslands. It has low water and nutrient requirements also it improves soil fertility and protects against soil erosion.
Napier grass is propagated by planting slips or splits. About 800 - 1000 kg which is around 27,800 root slips or stem cuttings is required for planting one hectare of land with Napier grass.
