Rainfed farming is a farming type that depends on the rainfall for water. Rainfed areas in India are highly diverse, with approximately 40 - 45% of total agricultural land ranging from resource rich areas to resource constrained areas. Out of 329 million hectares of the total geographical area of India, around 150 million hectares are net sown area while 65 - 70 million hectares are rainfed.
