The Ahom Kingdom was a powerful kingdom that ruled over Assam for nearly 600 years, from 1228 to 1826.

Sibsagar (now spelled as Sivasagar) served as the capital of the Ahom Kingdom for a significant period, especially during the later years of their rule.

Earlier, the Ahom rulers had their capitals at different locations such as Charaideo, Garhgaon, and Rangpur before finally shifting to Sibsagar.

Sibsagar is historically significant as it houses important monuments like the Rang Ghar, Talatal Ghar, and Sivadol, which reflect the architectural and cultural heritage of the Ahoms.
