Cold enrichment is required for the isolation of Listeria monocytogenes.
Monocytogenes is considered a Psychrotolerant bacterium due to its ability to grow at temperatures as low as -0.4°C. This tolerance to cold stress is responsible for the frequent detection of Listeria.
A culture technique employing cold enrichment at 4°C followed by selective enrichment and plating at higher temperatures (30°C) was used to isolate Listeria monocytogenes from faecal samples.
