The new zonal East Coast Railway headquarters has been operational in Bhubaneswar, the state capital of Orissa. The railway's geographical jurisdiction, however, extends across three states, encompassing almost all of Orissa, as well as parts of the districts of Srikakulam, Vizainagaram, and Visakhapatnam in North Eastern Andhra Pradesh, and Bastar and Dantewada in Chhatisgarh. As a result, these coastal regions are rich in mineral and other natural resources, and they are on the verge of an industrial boom.
