Durum wheat is a separate tetraploid species of wheat. Also called spring wheat and it is not much grown in India, despite that it is grown mainly in the central zone which includes the states of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, South Rajasthan and Maharashtra. Although durum wheat is known for its high protein content it is not so good to prepare chapatis, hence extensively grown for pasta production.
