Jatin bought a refrigerator with 20% discount on the labelled price. Had he bought it with 25% discount, he would have saved Rs. 500. At what price did he buy the refrigerator ?

A. Rs. 8000

B. Rs. 10,000

C. Rs. 12,500

D. Rs. 15,000

Solution (By Examveda Team)

Let the labelled price be Rs. x.
Then,
(80% of x) - (75% of x) = 500
⇒ 5% of x = 500
$$\eqalign{ & \Rightarrow x = \left( {\frac{{500 \times 100}}{5}} \right) \cr & \,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\, = 10000 \cr & = {\text{Rs}}{\text{. }}10,000 \cr} $$
∴ Purchase is = 10000 - 20% of 10000
= Rs.8000

    The right answer is Rs. 8000, because according to question "Jatin bought a refrigerator with 20% discount on the labelled price".
