Let the labelled price be Rs. x.Then,
(80% of x) - (75% of x) = 500
⇒ 5% of x = 500
$$\eqalign{ & \Rightarrow x = \left( {\frac{{500 \times 100}}{5}} \right) \cr & \,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\, = 10000 \cr & = {\text{Rs}}{\text{. }}10,000 \cr} $$
∴ Purchase is = 10000 - 20% of 10000
= Rs.8000
