Haemorrhagic septicaemia in cattle and buffaloes was previously known to be associated with one of two serotypes of P. multocida.
The disease occurs mainly in buffaloes. The incubation periods (the time between exposure and observable disease) for buffalo calves 4 - 10 months of age varies according to the route of infection.
