Nellore, Bellary, Mandya, Hassan, sheep breed is found in Southern region.
Nellore is the tallest breed of sheep in India, resembling goats in appearance. It has a long face and long ears with the body densely covered with short hair. This variety is fundamentally dispersed in Andhra Pradesh and a few pieces of Telangana.
Bellary sheep prevails primarily in Bellary and Davangere districts and the adjoining areas of Haveri and Chitaradurga districts of Karntaka state.
Mandya is found in the southern parts of the state. 'Bannnur' and 'Bandur' are synonyms for this breed. Mandya breed is known for its meaty conformation and meat quality.
The Hassan breed of sheep as the name suggests is traditional to the Hassan district of Karnataka. They are small to medium animals and have a white bodies with light brown or black spots.
