Odisha became a separate state on

The British established Odisha as a separate province on 1^st April, 1936. Bihar and Orissa Provinces were separated on 1^st April, 1936 to form Bihar Province and Orissa Province. Parts of Madras Presidency's Ganjam and Vizagapatam districts, as well as portions of the Vizagapatam Hill Tracts Agency and Ganjam Hill Tracts Agency, were transferred to Orissa Province.
