Protease activity in rumen is highest for

A. Bacteria

B. Protozoa

C. Fungi

D. Bacteriophage

Answer: Option B

Solution(By Examveda Team)

Protease activity in rumen is highest for Protozoa.
Proteolytic enzymes (proteases) are enzymes that break down protein. These enzymes are made by animals, plants, fungi, and bacteria. This might help with digestion or with the breakdown of proteins involved in swelling and pain.
The proteolytic activity of the bovine rumen microflora was studied with azocasein as the substrate. Approximately 25% of the proteolytic activity of rumen contents was recovered in the strained rumen fluid fraction, and the balance of the activity was associated with the particulate fraction. The protozoal autolysates had high aminopeptidase activity, low deaminase activity was observed on endogenous amino acids.
