Before 1947, Reasi and Rajouri were a joint district which were separated after the accession of the Princely State of Jammu and Kashmir to India in 1947. After that Reasi was with Udhampur district. Due to the constant efforts of the people for the restoration of the district status to Reasi, it got the status of district on 1st April, 2007.
