Rice is the staple food of the state and is extensively grown in the plain areas of Jammu and Kashmir region. Srinagar has a Rice Mill at Barbarshah which is quite large. A modern rice factory was setup at Lethpora (Pulwama district) in 1981. Other rice mills are established in Jammu, R. S. Pora, Vijaypur, Kathua, Hiranagar, Avantipora, Baramulla, Sapore and Anantnag.
