Which is the first port in Karnataka?

New Mangalore was declared India's 9^th Major Port on 4^th May, 1974. It was formally inaugurated by former prime minister Indira Gandhi on 11^th January, 1975. It is called New Mangalore Port to distinguish it from the old harbour or port located in Mangalore city which is called Mangalore bunder or Hale bunder.
