Who were the first Europeans to make their settlements in Odisha?

In Odisha, the Portuguese were the first Europeans to construct factories. They had a settlement in Pipili in Puri district. With the approval of the Mughal administration, the British founded a town in Hariharpur (modern day Jagatsinghpur) in 1633 to trade cotton commodities.
