BRICS is a special group made up of five big and powerful emerging economies from different parts of the world. The letters in BRICS are actually an acronym, meaning each letter stands for the first letter of one of its original member countries:
B stands for Brazil
R stands for Russia
I stands for India
C stands for China
S stands for South Africa

As of January 2025, the BRICS group has expanded to include 11 full member countries.

The current members are Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia.

Indonesia officially joined BRICS in January 2025, making it a full member of the group.
