Many women were involved in Mahatma Gandhi's salt movement, which began on 6^th April 1930. During the salt movement in Hazaribagh, Shailbala Ray opposed the salt legislation in Santhal Pargana, and Smt. Saraswati and Smt. Sadha Devi were detained. In 1941, in Dumka, Mahadevi Kejriwal decided to defy the salt rule.
