Nainital Lake is called the "Lake district of India". Nainital Lake is one of the four lakes of Kumaon Hills, the other three lakes are Sattal Lake, the Bhimtal Lake and Naukuchiyatal Lake, these lakes are of "tactonic origin". The district of Nainital is in the Kumaon region of India's Uttarakhand state. Nainital is named after the Hindu diety "Naina Devi", whose temple is situated on the northern shore of "Nainital Lake".
