A Commission under S.K.Dhar and a Congress Committee under Jawahar Lal Nehru, Sardar Patel and Pattabhi Sitaramayya (JVP Committee) examined the feasibility of re-organisation of states on linguistic basis. Both did not favour a linguistic base. But prolong agitation of people and the death of Potti Sriramalu after 56day hunger strike forced government to create Andhra Pradesh as first linguistic state by separating the Telugu speaking areas from the state of Madras in 1953.
