The executive is the organ exercising authority in and holding responsibility for the governance of a state.

The first Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir was Ghulam Mohammed Sadiq. He held the office from 1965 to 1971.

Under executive powers the Governor appoints the Chief Minister, Ministers of the state and Deputy Ministers of the state. These powers give him rights to appoint higher rank officials of Jammu and Kashmir.

JKPSC was set up on 2^nd September, 1957 under Section-128 of the State Constitution. The first Chairman of JKPSC was Major General Yadav Singh (from September, 1957 to March, 1960).
